When we think of carpets, we think of positive things and some negative things. Of course, there is an easy solution to the negatives 😉 And the positive compensates for much more than the negative. Let's get started.
What are the positive reasons for buying a carpet?
Rugs are known to brighten up a space, create atmosphere, increase comfort or protect your floor. Of course, there are many more reasons (we give you 5 here), so read on to discover the top reasons why rugs are a smart investment.
The rugs look great and enhance the decor of any room.
If you care about the interior or exterior design of your home, you should know the importance of an impressive rug to achieve a pleasant and inviting environment. To get the most out of your rooms, you should consider the overall decoration style and color pattern when buying your new rug.
If you care about the design and aesthetics of your home, garden or terrace, you should not forget that the carpet is a fundamental part to create a pleasant, decorative and inviting environment. Normally, when we have clean furniture, sofas, etc., the carpet is always chosen last. From here, the process of choosing the carpet you need according to the decoration we have chosen will begin.
Solid color carpet, geometric style, abstract drawing, bright color palette… Depending on the set of our room, we can choose from a wide variety of designs and colors. Regarding colors, a very common advice is to base ourselves on the 60-30-10 rule. That is, 60% of the color chosen for the house is the same (preferably a neutral color), 30% of another color (normally a secondary color) and finally 10% of the other color decoration to be chosen.
When it comes to rugs, because of the surface they cover and the way they can stand out, it is normal to choose a rug that combines 60-30, that is, in a range of neutral base colours, with details that combine with other colours combined with this 30%.
For tastes, though not necessarily colors, say lovers of boho-chic decorating, which is characterized by a mix of colors and decorative styles.
A rug can make a room look brighter or larger.
For example, if you are renting, sometimes you are not allowed to change the color of your walls or flooring. Also, dark-toned furniture can make a room look gloomy or less spacious. To fix this, a rug can create a unique aesthetic look.
For small spaces, a rug can create an airy effect. For this, we can achieve much more light with solid color or neutral tones. Flat-weave rugs are also a great option. Their lighter and simpler appearance helps to create a better feel in the room.
For larger or transparent environments, a rug helps to delimit a certain area, for example the sofa area or the dining table area. In this way we help to create a more comfortable environment by feeling more collected.
Mats provide thermal and acoustic insulation
The role of rugs throughout history is well known, either used to create grand environments that provided cache or status where they were placed, or woven to protect those who used them from the cold of the ground. Perhaps a combination of the two.
Carpets, especially wool rugs, are the ones that provide the most thermal insulation from both cold and heat. The most common concept among people is that the carpet acts as a barrier that prevents contact with the cold of the ground. This is true even though they insulate in another way.
Rugs help maintain room temperature, so whether the heating or air conditioning is on, rugs help reduce electricity consumption by better maintaining the temperature of our living room or bedroom. Easier to maintain room temperature with less electrical power. That's why it's a good idea to store rugs in the summer 🙂
When it comes to soundproofing, we obtain two benefits first of all with rugs: reducing the echo in the room where it is placed and, above all, preventing the sound from passing through the rug and reaching another place.
For example, the best-known example of carpets as a noise-insulating element is the corridor carpets in hotels. They have always been installed because they greatly reduce the sound transmission caused by the passage of suitcases or the conversations of guests. Since the hotel's aim is to provide the highest possible comfort for its customers, they make a wise decision to install carpets or rugs in the corridors and rooms.
Also, it can be very useful not only for us but also for our downstairs neighbors, for example. Or maybe they won’t appreciate having a rug in the living room, in the children’s playroom or in the hallway. Of course you do 🙂 So if you want to reduce background noise or the amount of noise that disturbs others, consider adding a rug to your rooms.
Carpets protect the floor
If we have natural wood flooring in our home, one way to protect it in high traffic areas is to use rugs. Natural wood is usually quite expensive to install and maintain, so the more care it takes, the more durable it will be.
Rugs are typically resistant to use, with a structure or frame that protects the floor from footsteps, heels, and even the toys of the littlest in the house. They can also act as a barrier against liquids, preventing them from penetrating the wood and deteriorating prematurely.
If you are one of those who prefer easy-care rugs, outdoor/indoor rugs are the most suitable as they can be easily wetted, washed, swept and vacuumed.
Remember that wooden floors in high-traffic areas such as hallways or terraces or garden exits are more prone to wear than other rooms in the house, as they usually accumulate more dirt. An entrance mat or hallway rug will protect the floor in great shape and of course help to decorate your home.
