Balcony design is not the first thing you think of. And yet in 2025 there is a need for a balcony! We offer you various ideas to feel comfortable even at home: from a mini greenhouse to a relaxation area.
In general, repairing the balcony is worth doing in any case: this is your legal space, which is obtained by purchasing an apartment. If you are seriously considering the design of the balcony, ideas from new decoration trends will help you beautifully decorate the space. We offer solutions based on common areas: 3, 6 or 12 square meters.
How to choose a balcony design
We create a greenhouse. Even a more or less decent wardrobe will not fit on a balcony of 3 square meters or less. Alternatively, order according to individual sizes. But you can forget about endless piles of clothes and think about the beautiful – for example, flowers. How many of them are cramped on the windowsills? Modern apartments do not offer almost any large window openings, pots have to be “collected” everywhere. The way out is to take a balcony to the flower kingdom and enjoy a beautiful view every day. And if you stock up on flowering plants in advance, even in winter, you will enjoy not only the snow falling outside the window, but also the Christmas poinsettia.
You can take a balcony to the flower kingdom and enjoy the beautiful view every day.
We play around the view. Some apartments are expensive purely because of the view: the design leaves much to be desired, but a magnificent view opens up in front of you in the Old Town. What to do in this case? A wicker chair, a warm blanket and a tea table would be the best solution. The gaze does not meet anything superfluous and strives for the main thing – the most beautiful panorama behind the railings.
A wicker chair, a warm blanket and a tea table will be a good design solution.
We equip a cozy corner. If the climate allows you to spend a lot of time outdoors, why not take advantage of it? On the balcony of 6-9 m2 it is easy to organize a dining area or a place for receiving guests. A soft sofa with many pillows will harmonize with the surrounding world. Reading a book on the balcony is relaxing even after a hard day's work. Choose a suitable balcony design: Provence, country or shabby chic styles create real comfort.

We sunbathe and relax. The area of 6-9 m2 is such a place that you can't really turn around. Don't you want to fool yourself? Put on a couple of sun loungers and enjoy the sun. In the evenings you can have a friendly party on the balcony: the neighbors will not complain about the noise in the apartment and you can relax.
Pull out some lounge chairs and enjoy the sun.
We increase the usable area. When the balcony is 12 squares, feel free to organize a separate room! Glass will help in this. Just do not overdo it with furniture (the construction board may not withstand the load). A cabinet with a table and chairs, a guest room with a sofa or a bar counter will be a simple and practical solution.

Balcony design 3 m2
Someone glazes the balcony and knocks down the wall – so the room becomes larger, you can put a sofa in the free space or take out the dining area. We advise you not to conflict with the builders and organize a flower area. Especially on the balcony on the south side – there will be enough light. Look for special shelves or order one with a split level. So there is a place for small pots, tall palm trees and creeping plants.
We recommend that you arrange a flower area on the balcony.
A few years ago there was a trendy pallet furniture. But maybe you like it now too? It looks stylish and cheap. On the internet you can see how to make a sofa from building pallets and sewing cushions. Do not forget to sand the surface for a pleasant sitting experience. For the winter, the case should still be moved indoors – no filler can withstand such humidity.
On the balcony there is room for small flower pots, tall palm trees and creepers.
Balcony design 6 m2
A coffee table and a pair of armchairs will not take up much space. To visually enlarge the space, choose light colors: the balcony design in white, beige, sandy tones will be just right. Scandinavian decor is now in fashion: a lot of space, 1-2 pots of flowers and a minimum of furniture.

If practicality is a priority – arrange an office, fortunately, space provides. True, you need to glaze and insulate the balcony. Before renovation, be sure to consult an architect! He will calculate the load and decide which materials can be used. Additional reinforcement may be required.
Scandinavian decor is in fashion now: lots of space and minimal furniture.
Balcony design 12 m2
Balcony 12 square meters – a whole room! As in the above case, we glaze and insulate the room together with the architect. What can be organized here? Everything from a teenager’s room to a separate dressing room! By the way, the second solution is becoming increasingly popular in Moscow. Compact storage systems free up a lot of space in the apartment. The balcony is used 100% efficiently. Do not forget about the hatches and the door system – this will prevent things from fading in the sun.
Just don't forget the covers – this will prevent things from fading in the sun.
In elite residences and country houses, a spacious balcony becomes a terrace where you can sunbathe, receive guests and organize family dinners. The area is finished with wooden slats, fences are changed to colorful ones. Being on such a balcony means feeling like on vacation, and the atmosphere should be conducive to this. We recommend wicker rattan furniture and designer figurines. It looks expensive and emphasizes the taste of the owners.
A large balcony can be turned into a terrace where you can sunbathe and receive guests.
Popular questions and answers
How does a balcony differ from a loggia? What architectural difficulties should be taken into account when renovating?
– Balcony and loggia are two completely different elements from an aesthetic and constructive point of view. A balcony is a cantilever slab that extends beyond the exterior of the building and has only one support point, and a loggia is a room located in the plane of the facade with two or three support points. Recently, many are rebuilding the loggia into an independent room. You just need to polish, insulate, think over the planning solution and the room is ready! This can also be done on balconies, but I do not recommend doing this for two reasons:
- It is dangerous to fill the balcony slab with glass and insulation without calculating the loads in advance! After all, balconies are intended as a decorative element of the facade and a small seating area. I would not recommend overloading it even with furniture;
- The appearance of the glass balcony is also not happy. Especially if people are trying to increase its area with additional structures. It looks extremely ridiculous.
If you have a balcony, do not decorate it with glass or clutter it with things, let it be a nice playground for summer holidays.
What is the hottest balcony design that customers ask most in 2023?
– I can safely say about such a trend as a balcony-cabinet in 2025. Many people switch to remote work, they need a separate workplace, and for this they go out onto the balcony. I am glad that my clients are very sensitive to loggias-balconies – they pay attention to the storage of things, to the fact that they are a place to rest. Hanging chairs, mini sofas, bar stools are very popular now.
Which fence looks best on the balcony: grid or brick wall? Can the balcony be renewed?
– Definitely, the forged fence looks more interesting. Various variations of performance, implementation of the author's ideas are possible. Houses with glazed balconies attract me – they look fresh, give lightness to the facades. If you have your own house, you can rebuild a balcony. If you live in a high-rise building, self-rebuilding violates the integrity of the architectural composition. In addition, it is prohibited in the area of the historic center. During my last trip to Europe, I remembered the high-rise buildings with balconies, no one even thought of rebuilding and glazing them. It looks neat and beautiful.
