New Trends in Kitchen Designs in 2024
What are the New Trends in Kitchen Design in 2024? We explore the trends in kitchen design. On this occasion, for this year 2025. On the Internet, you can read articles about upcoming trends, usually based on what manufacturers present at international fairs. We chose to ask you directly what your taste is when it comes to designing the kitchen of your dreams.
That’s why we conducted a survey last August about the features you prefer for your kitchen. In this article, we tell you what the results were and what we can assume will be the trends in kitchen design in 2025.
2025 Modern style is trending
In the first questions of the survey we were interested in your preferred kitchen style, referring to the design style and the layout of the room.
The trend in design is the modern kitchen style; the winner, with 40% of the responses, without a doubt. This kitchen style is characterized by the use of handleless door models (integrated into the door itself) and a furniture that tries to maintain pure lines throughout the composition. At the same time, it offers interesting contrasts by emphasizing the use of pure colors, white or black, or even combined. The modern kitchen style is ideal for kitchens that are always looking for a timeless look that is always up to date.
The organization of the kitchen corresponds to the following question. Here we offer you two options: the kitchen as an open space to the rest of the house or the kitchen as an independent room. Although the final adjustment is made, the option of the open kitchen to the house is the preferred option. Perhaps because of the spaciousness offered by this organization, allowing the integration of common solutions between rooms such as the island, or because the open kitchen is the ideal place for meetings and more private moments.
The trend in materials and colors does not change
In this part of the survey we enter a universe of options. Both in materials and colors, the variety and possibilities are endless for a long time.
In the first question we got straight to the point and asked you what your favorite color for the kitchen is. The response was overwhelming in favor of light colors. This is perfectly in line with what we told you in our kitchen design trends report.
White is still king because its benefits go beyond aesthetics. It’s the brightest color in the chromatic palette, making it a great option for kitchens with little natural light. It gives the space an extra sense of spaciousness and is much more practical because it’s easier to clean in terms of dirt. One of our favorites is the “anti-fingerprint target”, which is a good example of all the above benefits.
The next question revolved around the material you prefer for your kitchen doors. The result is great: a draw! 43% choose between the two options: glass and laminate (21.5% each). These two materials come in glossy and matte finishes, so the options are truly endless, but if we have to be guided by our customers’ wishes, matte finishes are more in demand than gloss.
Glossy surfaces provide a mirror effect that reinforces the much-demanded modern style, but this is not restrictive for other kitchen styles. Glossy kitchens are brighter and provide both pleasant and impressive sensations, regardless of the size of the kitchen. Although fingerprints and stains are more visible on these surfaces, cleaning them is still practical and simple thanks to the protective treatments offered by these surfaces.
Matt finishes also have their advantages, which we recommend you consider. This finish provides a particularly elegant and understated result that suits your kitchen very well if it has good lighting.
The range of colours and textures is also quite wide and in general you will have more decoration options if your kitchen is in this finish. When it comes to cleaning, matte surfaces are more practical than glossy ones as they are easier to keep stains and fingerprints away.
Openings also contribute to kitchen design
In this section we asked you about one of the most important points when using the kitchen: the opening of the furniture. We have many options for high, low and column furniture; we were interested to know which option is preferred. In this regard, the trend is very clear: the most innovative openings are the ones that are preferred. For example, we put coplanar opening, retractable (hiding the kitchen) or removable fittings with internal storage solutions.
This is consistent with other trends in kitchen design. New openings provide features that make furniture more enjoyable to use. We are talking about fittings that do not take up space when the door is opened, or about flexible and functional interior storage. This way, the kitchen retains a simple and essential appearance when viewed from the outside, but does not lose its functionality.
There are also trends in door models
And since we asked you about the openings, we didn't forget the door model either!
The material and color of your kitchen add style and personality to your kitchen, but only the door model can bring the desired character to the heart of your home. This question gets straight to the point: Which do you prefer when choosing your kitchen handle: a handle integrated into the door or a handle fixed to the front?
The trend towards door models with completely flat fronts and integrated handles is total. Three out of every four people prefer a kitchen with smooth surfaces. Functional, ergonomic and easy to use, these door models have unrivaled advantages in terms of cleaning and maintenance.
In the section “Electrical appliances” we have addressed a fundamental aspect in the design of your kitchen. It has to do with the role they play in the room: visible or integrated? Due to the obvious difference between the electrical appliances we are talking about, we divide this section into two questions.
On the one hand, the hood. The development of this device has been magnificent in recent years. And in particular, the ceiling-mounted options are preferred by the vast majority (70%). They do not take up space, have suction power and are low-noise.
For the rest of the household appliances, with fewer differences, the trend is to integrate them into the furniture. In this way, the kitchen design remains compact and uniform without sacrificing functionality.
The counter must have presence
We’re nearing the end of our kitchen design trends survey, and we didn’t forget to ask you about countertops. An absolutely essential piece in any kitchen. As with the other sections, we’re splitting the questions into two parts.
The options are endless in terms of materials and colors, so the trend is not uniform towards one type. And there are two options that are in great demand! The first: compact (37.8%), followed by marble (34.1%). Both account for almost three quarters.
These two types of worktops are very versatile. They offer a wide range of options in terms of finishes and colours. There is a wide range of designs with grains and plain colours. They are very hygienic and easy to clean and, thanks to the latest developments, they are resistant to high temperatures (we always recommend protecting your worktop!).
On the other hand, countertop thickness has become a feature that has gained importance in kitchen design in recent years. Based on the results of this survey, we cannot say that there is a clear trend, although thickened countertops, usually thicker than 2 cm, are the most preferred option.
This is the only question in the survey whose results cannot be fully verified by the reality of the designs that our customers usually request. We appreciate that granite or quartzite is gaining ground in the market over other very popular materials and brands. As for the thickness of the countertop, and according to the designs we have made in the kitchen that our customers appreciate, the trend is towards the thinnest possible thickness.
General lighting is preferred
And finally we come to the lighting part. In this question, we change the answer format so that you can choose as many options as you want.
In kitchen lighting, the preference generally remains to properly resolve the lighting of the space (71.1%). That is, through the natural lighting of the room itself and / or lighting on the ceiling or walls, to obtain the most pleasant atmosphere possible.
Spot lighting is also gaining ground in certain areas of the kitchen, such as under tall cabinets (49.6%). We cannot forget that lighting options have evolved a lot in recent years, bringing to the forefront LED technology and some very functional and really low-consumption recessed solutions.
And is that lighting is also a fundamental element in the design of the kitchen and has a very important weight when it comes to obtaining a comfortable room for both cooking and living.
This has been our report on trends in kitchen design for 2025.
If you participated in our survey, we want to thank you, and if you didn't, don't worry, we'll be launching the one for 2025 soon!
We really enjoyed following this survey and are very pleased with both the participation (135 responses) and the results. It was a great opportunity to learn more about tastes and preferences and in short to try to come up with a short guide to what might be trending in the kitchen this year.
